Why is it called “Turtle Cheesecake”?

The term “Turtle Cheesecake” comes from the combination of ingredients found in classic “turtle” candies: chocolate, caramel, and pecans. This dessert captures all the elements of turtle candies with a pecan-infused crust, thick ripples of chocolate and caramel throughout, and additional caramel, chocolate, and pecans on top.

These candies are named after their shape, resembling a turtle, with pecans representing the limbs and caramel and chocolate forming the shell. In Turtle Cheesecake, these flavors are beautifully incorporated, creating a rich treat that mirrors the taste of the beloved turtle candy.

Ingredients:

6 ounces cream cheese

⅓ cup sour cream

¾ teaspoon vanilla extract

¾ teaspoon vinegar

⅓ cup powdered sugar

1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips

½ cup chopped pecans

¼ cup caramel sauce

1 cup graham cracker crust mixture

Equipment:

Mini Mason Jars

Hand Mixer

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Idle Time: 2 hours

This recipe makes 5 Mini Jars.

Directions

In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, sour cream, vanilla extract, vinegar, and powdered sugar.

Use a hand mixer to blend the ingredients until the mixture is smooth and almost lump-free.

Prepare your countertop/workspace with the mini mason jars, pecans, chocolate chips, caramel, graham cracker crust, and cheesecake mixture. This is where you will begin to prep each of the mini mason jars.

Place a generous tablespoon of the graham cracker crust mixture into each mini mason jar. Use the spoon or your clean fingers to flatten the crust at the bottom of each jar.

Fill each jar halfway with the cheesecake mixture.

Add a layer of chocolate chips, pecans, and a drizzle of caramel.

Fill the rest of the jar with more cheesecake mixture.

Top each jar with another layer of pecans, chocolate chips, and a final drizzle of caramel.

Repeat the process for all mason jars.

Cover the jars with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 2 hours to set. Enjoy immediately, or seal with the mason jar lids to keep them fresh for later.
